Broiled Flank Steak with Cherry Barbeque Sauce

Broil: 10 minutes

Serves: 4 

Flank Steak

  • 1⁄2 teaspoon Our Family garlic powder
  • 1⁄4 teaspoon Our Family coarse ground black pepper 
  • Our Family Nonstick cooking spray
  • 1 flank steak (about 11⁄2 pounds) 
  • Thinly sliced green onions for garnish (optional) 

Cherry Barbecue Sauce

  • 1⁄2 cup dried cherries
  • 1 small Open Acres red onion, finely chopped
  • 1 1⁄2 teaspoons Our Family canola oil
  • 1 cup Our Family ketchup
  • 3 cup packed Our Family light brown sugar
  • 1⁄4 cup refrigerated Our Family orange juice
  • 1 tablespoon Our Family apple cider vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon dry mustard
  • 1 teaspoon mild (original) molasses 
  1. Prepare Flank Steak: Preheat broiler with oven rack about 6 inches from source of heat. In small bowl, combine garlic powder and pepper. Spray foil-lined rimmed baking pan with nonstick cooking spray. Place flank steak on prepared baking pan and rub garlic powder mixture onto all sides of steak. Broil steak 10 minutes or until internal temperature reaches 135° for medium- rare, turning once. Transfer steak to cutting board; loosely cover with aluminum foil and let stand 10 minutes. 
  2. Meanwhile, prepare Cherry Barbeque Sauce: In small bowl, cover cherries with hot water and let stand 10 minutes; drain. In large skillet, cook onion in oil over medium-low heat 5 minutes or until onion is soft, stirring occasionally. Add remaining ingredients and heat to boiling. Reduce heat and simmer 5 minutes; fold in cherries. 
  3. Meanwhile, prepare Cherry Barbeque Sauce: In small bowl, cover cherries with hot water and let stand 10 minutes; drain. In large skillet, cook onion in oil over medium-low heat 5 minutes or until onion is soft, stirring occasionally. Add remaining ingredients and heat to boiling. Reduce heat and simmer 5 minutes; fold in cherries. 

Chef Tip Slice steak across the grain. Serve steak topped with Cherry Barbecue Sauce garnished with green onions, if desired.
